I started working with glass when I was 15, learning from my Dad and Uncles. My Dad was my biggest influence, he worked as a landscape gardener by day and worked with glass at night, selling to Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. In 1962 he went to the Worlds Fair in Seattle with Reuben Deshaney which was a turning point in his life, he then took up glassblowing full time selling at County fairs up and down the western seaboard. He continued working until well into his 80,s and just recently passed away aged 89.
I started making little animals using borosilicate glass (pyrex) and sold them to my Dad and Uncles at first and then later to Disneyland. By the time I was in my early 20,s I landed a job at Sea world as their in house glassblower and later worked at fairs and craft shows throughout the pacific north west, I am a part of Artist in Action at the Washington State Fair (the Puyallup) where I demonstrate my art throughout the fair.
I love my job, I work in a shed in the back yard, listen to music and watch tv while I am working. I love to make sea life and wild life but my bread and butter are my critters especially hummingbirds which I taught my wife Fern to make as well, although she prefers to make fused glass with Dichroic glass. Fern also hand paints a lot of my work as I use primarily clear glass.
Both Fern and I hope you enjoy our work, and please keep checking on us as the site is growing daily
